Meeting in Geneva
On 7 June 2012, a meeting of the communities of Cyprus with the UN Secretary-General in Geneva was completed, the outcome of which was agreed to speed up the negotiation process in order to reach agreement on basic issues by October. In addition, the role of the UN in the negotiations “increases”, and their outcome will be an international conference.
Speaking after the four-hour meeting, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon made it clear that the UN is looking forward to the end of negotiations on the Cyprus problem, regardless of their outcome.
“The leaders mutually agreed to speed up the negotiation process on key issues. I have no doubt that by October they will reach compromises on all major topics, and we will have a meeting in New York this month, ”Ban Ki-moon said in turn.
